blodgett reviews a packet of ‘bacon flavour rashers’ from a supermarket.
NOTE: these not actual pig-based baconfoods, they just crisps.
appearance: not much like bacon. but quite like other crispfoods of this nature.
texture: good crisp, good crunch. dissolves nicely, only small quantity of residue.
taste: also not much like bacon. blodgett notes vegetarian mark on packet, indicating complete absence of meat. taste is salty and vaguely appealing, also slightly sour. pleasant maizey after-taste. blodgett detects a hint of pistachio, although this is not in ingredients list. however blodgett notes further that ‘defatted soya grits’ *are* on the ingredients list, but do not know what these taste like.
overall: 4.5/7, would eat again.
disclaimer: blodgett consumed 2 packets, but for research purposes only. thoughtful sampling is hard work yupyup.
